Today I did something I haven't done in FIVE years.
I auditioned to be in a musical.
Wow, it was wierd, and exciting all at the same time!
So I didn't get to really see who I was up against for the parts, but I did get to hear the other people singing, while we all waited in the lobby. Wow, there's some great talent here in Utah!
Let me tell you about my experience. When I walked in, I didn't know ONE person there. I filled out my audition paper and waited. Each girl that walked in was greeted warmly by the other girls that were already there.
Each new girl that walked in somehow got the "memo" about the unspoken dress code! They were all in black pants, and some gray or black top. (looked like interpreters!!) I was sitting there, feeling so wierd! I wore a gray ruffle-tier dress, crazy floral leggings, a yellow necklace, and coral colored cardigan. I could NOT have looked more different than all of them!
So as I listened to the girls do their songs, I felt even worse!! They all sounded similar, very opera-like, but still pretty voices. Then I get up there to do my song, and once again, I could not have been more different. My voice is brassy, loud and strong, not a church voice whatsoever. Completely opposite of those girls!
Well, I went up and did my audition piece. It was just awesome to be up on a stage again and to have an audience! It's been a while. :) The director looked BORED!!!!!! He was like falling asleep. I moved all over that stage, but he wasn't having it.
There is only ONE main girl role, and I am 99.9% sure I did NOT get the part. I should hear about callbacks tomorrow, but I highly doubt I'll get any part! The reason why??! WELL....
Come to find out, the entire show is a freaking OPERA!!!!!!!!! Why did I even go? I thought it was some awesome comedy that wanted some cute spunky talent! Guess not! Dang it. Oh well, I am just glad that I tried out. It was good practice.
Guess I should have done my research next time before I auditioned. I looked like an idiot! hahaha!

I think it's cool you stood out. I think it will help them remember you and that's not a bad thing.
Also, way to go trying out for a play! That's awesome, you're not an idiot for doing that. You never know if you never try! Seriously--way.to.go!
