There is a story to this, I promise.
To start, I should let you know that I just scarfed an entire zupas salad (not half salad, mind you.. a full salad) in less than 10 minutes. I'm at work, and I only get a 10 minute break. If I go over a minute or two, I get in trouble.
I usually don't eat that fast! In fact, I generally eat very slowly, in opposition to my husband's family, who eats faster than you could blink your eyes.
Trav explained it to me one day. He said that with so many kids, you had to get what you wanted on your plate and eat it fast, otherwise there wouldn't be anything left.
I've seen this exact scenario many times at my in-law's house. It's almost as if those kids feel like they will never be fed again, except the one meal! Everyone is done by the time I am barely taking my first bite.
However, I'm not alone! My sister-in-law, Christy eats slow as well! We tell our husbands that the reason why we can't eat as fast as them is because we both have a small esophagus.... which means we have to chew our food a lot more before we swallow, and that takes quite some time!
Well I've been trying to eat healthier now for about 2 months, and it's working out really well. I have been doing a ton of research lately. Come to find out, that eating slower is actually better for you! HA! (Way to go Christy and me!!)
So next time our husbands pressure us to eat faster, or they tease us for eating slow, I'll still use the excuse that my esophagus is smaller than theirs, but I'll also say that I do it because it's better for me. :)
