my FACE cheeks, in case any one thought of different cheeks. (hehe)
All day I interpret phone calls for deaf people and I can see them on a screen. It's called the Video Relay Service, in case you didn't know. (If you ever hear "Hi this is sorenson video relay service, interpreter #---" Please don't hang up, it's not a telemarketer!)
Anyway, I've been trying to work on my customer service, so I am constantly smiling whenever I get a call, to greet my callers with friendliness. It doesn't always work, as some people are just upset and want to make their call, but I smile nonetheless, before and when I am completing a call.
When I'm done with my shift, my cheeks are super sore! I'm really workin on my face wrinkles, makin those lines deep and creased. :) I guess I'm working on my face muscles too, not like I really need it, I am constantly contorting my face when I interpret!
(Yeah, you're imagining me making some crazy faces right now, huh?) Most people who haven't seen me interpret before are laughing uncontrollably the first time they see me do it. I suppose it is comical, but I'm so used to it, I don't notice!
Fellow interpreters out there, does your face hurt at the end of a long interpreting day?
